Pinewood Derby

The thing I like most about Cub Scouts is the Pinewood Derby Car races.

Every other year we get build a car to race against each other. First we start out with a block of wood, then we pick out a design and cut it out of the block. We do alot of sanding, painting and decorating of the reace car.

After we are done, it becomes a really cool pinewood derby car.

We all meet at Forest Ridge and have a big race. There are usually about 5 big winners, but we all get a participation ribbon. IT is a very fun event! I can't wait till my next race!

I am enjoying being a cub scout. This is my second year. These are my pins and badges: citizenship, outdoorsman, fitness, Bobcat and work-in-kind. What I like about Cub Scouts is bb guns, pinewood derby, crafts and everything else! I like camping, my friends and the pack leaders. CCTV was so cool! I like everything (yes, I know I said that twice).

As a first year webelos I earned the outdoorsman pin by going camping. I liked hiking, fishing and sleeping with the cub scouts. We saw deer footprints on our hike and it was good exercise. When we got back from our hike we fished in the rain. I caught 6 fish and the others caught about the same amount of fish as I did. Because it was so rainy, we set up out tent in the attic of the lodge. We rousted marshmallows and made smores together. After a long night we got up to a good smell. The smell was (drum roll please) pancakes, fish, eggs and sausage getting ready for us to cook. It was fun to make breakfast... outside... in the rain. I can't wait to go again.

We have a great year planned for our Scouts at Pack 12!

Our first Pack meeting of the year is coming up Monday, September 27, 2010 at Forest Ridge Elementary School from 6:30- 7:30 p.m. Pack meetings are generally held on the last Monday of every month. You can always check our calendar for more information on our current activities!
